This seems to be only longer topic about 6-speed manual so I have a question for those who ever took one apart.
I bough my truck with close to 200k miles and the transmission was seeping the oil on center gasket. I tightened up the bolts around, but one gave me the soft feeling of stripping threads, so I stopped there and used some silicone to stop the leak. That helped, but I have to add ATF to transmission with every oil change and last inspection shows the leak is getting bigger. How hard is it to replace the gasket? At the same time I could put helicoil in bad hole.
i got the zf6 in my 02 f250 with the 5.4 and i love it even my wife loves it great trans
i got 212 000km on it still with the origanal cluch sihifts great just when it cold i dosn't like to shift well once its warm it shift like my old mans 03 mach 1
I've got the 5spd in my 99F250 with 205,000. It drives in very rough conditions. everything has been great and the clutch still feels good. I have a 6spd in my 05 F250 with 95000 and everything is great with that one too. When its cold it is really touchy in 1st but it gets better when it warms up some
Im having an issue. I get 0 feed back from motor. It is so quiet and smooth i can feel 1600rpm vs 3000! I have to watch tach to know what is going on
3v guys what is the "minimum" rpm? I know my 410 geared 3v mustang didnt like running under about 1900rpm. But the 3.73 5.4 seems to go as low as 1600 without lugging. But im not sure if i should let it go that low. I.e 45mph is 2100in third and 1600~ in fourth. I really cant feel this motor so i cant tell.
And why if i let off the brake on a hill will the truck not roll back? Havent played with it too much but anyone know?
I have a 99' F350 7.3L 4x4 with the 4R100, and was wondering if anyone has done a swap over to the zf6. i do a fair bit of freeway driving and fuel economy kinda goes out of the window keeping up with traffic around here.. not to mention that manuals are way better than auto any day..
Can't answer any of the questions but just wanted to chime in and say unless I have problems with this truck it will probably be my last ford, atleast for a very long time. Folks say no one wants the stick anymore and those that do are probably buying used anyways. Almost all my friends have 5/6 speed superduties so I dont know what they are talking about. They say the numbers show virtually zero demand for manuals, yet 99% of people buy off a lot and dealers only stock auto's so me thinks that effects the stats. Only 6 speed I could find in my conifg was out of state and wrong color (white). So I ordered one, done deal.
I'll drive her till she dies and then rebuild her and drive some more...
I'm still trying to get more info on how to put a big block ZF5 into my Bronco...
Thanks. Looks easy on pictures, but probably getting new clutch at the same time will be good idea.
Have to study it more carefully, but looks like the 30 t press is necessary only for gears removal and I will not to do it for gasket replacement.
To revive the topic about stripped thread on the transmission case.
I tried to stop the drip on the weak 10mm housing bolt and the bolt come off without big resistance having lot of aluminum shavings on the end.
Does anyone has a long helicoils to repair such a thing? I could probably enlarge the hole to insert the helicoil, but the bolt is like 2" (50 mm) long and I haven't seen such a long helicoil taps. I can weld extension on standard tap, but don't even want to think about breaking it inside the hole.
Anybody knows a good and EASY fix?
I have a 05 F250 6.0 manual everything. The truck has 120k on it with no issues, including all the racing (trying to speed shift) and pure hell I put it through before I deployed. No problems what so ever.
