aod on a '78 302
I bought a '78 F100 recently with a 302.I also know a guy who has a '8? something lincoln with a 302 and AOD I can get real cheap.I was wondering if any of you guys would know how much trouble it would be to put the AOD in the '78 with my 302?Just a thought but any info would be appreciated.

it will bolt up physically fine to your motor. Might have to play with the crossmember but I don't think so. I for one would not bet on that DOA lasting long in the truck though. At the least a quality rebuild should be done. The AOD's are pretty weak and add to that the weight of a truck...

Dito. The swap is easy but the AOD isn't very strong. There is a company in Canada Lentech that builds a valve body that can strengthen it.It's about $500. Their add is usually in the back of the Mustangs & Fords magazine. You can get the other parts, Linkage etc, From Windsor Fox. www.windsorfox.com. They might even have a cross member that works.
