Hello All,
I have a 90 Bronco II with a 2.9L and It keeps dying on me. It will be fine one minute then it will just shut off. When i try to restart it, It sometimes backfires, sputters, and usually take about 10-15 min to restart. I just put in a new starter, throttle position sensor, and fuel filter. It runs GREAT until it dies. Then it's a pain in the fanny. I think it might be timing but Im not sure and I am tired of spending money on this thing. Thank you so much in advance.
Debbie

When it stalls/won't start, is it from lack of spark, lack of fuel, or both? One of the first things I might do is pull codes from the computer, some no-starts leave clues in the computer.
I had a full size do about the same thing to me. It turned out to be the ignition module went bad. When it would heat up it would just shut down until it cooled off.
Doubt it's the timing, get it analyzed for about 50 bucks, if you guess by putting parts on it it can get costly without results a lot of the time, I'm not suggesting it's the oxygen sensor mounted on the exhaust lead pipe but my 87 5.0L Mustang acted a lot like that until I replaced them (Mustangs have 2, your Bronco has 1) Good luck!
