I have a '90 Ford Bronco II 2.9L with fuel injection, and lately the engine will shut off while driving.
Everything seems normal, it starts from cold no problem, runs smoothly, then with no warning and no sputtering, the engine just dies.
It won't restart after this for at least a few hours, but eventually it will restart and run fine again for a while (up to 30 minutes of continuous driving in some cases, but sometimes after 5 minutes) then just dies again with no warning. It is usually at a low speed (20-30mph) when it dies.
It almost seems like a flooding issue? Any Help would be appreciated?
p.s. I asked a mechanic if it might be the fuel pump, and he said if the fuel pump went bad it wouldn't run at all?
I had the same problem. It was the TFI module like Ken said. First time it happened to me was on the interstate on my way back to college about 60 mile from home and 60 from school. Glad I had a cell phone, only had the phone about 2 weeks before it happened.
Thanks for the help, I called a couple parts stores and they have a "distributor module", which I assume is the same as the TFI module ranging from $38 - $80.
I will try replacing that tonight.
