GUys I am new to this site seems great hope someone can help me. I bought an 86 lariat 5.0 efi. Has the smog pump in cab on the floor. I think i can install that my problem is the valve cover gaskets are leaking so bad cant drive due to burning oil on manifold. I did everything the manual said to remove upper intake for rite side gasket all i see is 4 bolts are there some hiding could the gasket be holding it on .I hit it with a wood block an hammer it wont come loose. Also is there an y way to adjust tv cable trans stays in first way to long an then slams into second kid i bought it from said this started after he crossed the spark plug wires makes no sense to me HELP. HI Goulette55
There is a torx-head bolt right in the center of the upper manifold. you can get an extension rachet and a torx bit to get it.
Located in the middle (front to back, AND right to left) of the manifold.
If you have all the outer AND this pesky center bolt it Should come off.
As for the TV cable, Attach a spring on the tranny lever (on the tranny) to put the shifter in as-far-back as possable now adjust the cable by the TB mount.

Thank you very much reamer for your help . The world series is just starting got a tv in the garage so heading out to find that bolt. AGAIN THANKS DAN Goulette55
I found the bolt got it out with allen wrench thanks again for all the help. I still have to adjust the tv cable an hope the trans is not fried. I dont understand how to adjust the cable any help would be appreciated. If you put a spring on trans link how do you know when you have adjusted the cable to rite position turn cable drive truck see if it shifts rite if not doit again? Hope i dont sound stupid . Thanks guys Dan Goulette55
Just put the truck in neutral and loosen the retainer for the cable retainer at the engine side. The spring to hold the linkage back at the tranny is just strong enough to take the slop out. You can just have a friend/spouse put pressure on it with their finger. The idea is not to push hard on it but to take the slack/slop out of it since it can wiggle a 1/4 inch or so. The whole procedure takes only about 2 minutes. Once it is ready to go, you just push the ratiner clamp back on and it is adjusted.
There is a more complicated way to do it that is supposed to be better but it takes special tools and mine always worked fine doing it the fast way.
Thanks guys i got trans shifting good . I installed new air pump an truck dies when it warms up need to know where to go first. I pulled up codes of 21 34 44 25 . Does any one know where to start first without replacing sensors also did wiggle test nothing. Has new wires. Also the distributor cap is kind of loose is it supposed to be. Truck runs ok at idle but rpms rise an fall a little then smooths out when it warms spits sputters an dies also dies when going around corners unles i feather gas pedal. I know am asking a lot any help greatly appreciated Dan Goulette55
