I'm new here and have been reading around the site. My F150-1998 4,2 6cyl 90,000 KMS[55,000 MLS],has a 'check engine light' on. I had buddy hook it up,and it can back with 'cam position sensor'. Question would be is where is that on my particular engine, and could it be just a matter of needing new plugs and wires????
Thanks for any help in this matter

Are you having any symptoms other than the check engine light on? Most of the time when the cam position sensor is shot that's the only symptom.
I don't think I've replaced any cam position sensors on 4.2L engines but I have on other Fords. It is at the front of the engine, where the distributor would be if it had one. It's round, probably about 2 inches across and about 3/4" tall. It has 1 electrical connector and 2 screws holding it down. Once you have it removed check the "blades" underneath it for damage. You'll see what I mean when you're there.
I got my F150 fixed on Thursday. The Cam Position Sensor was pooched. The magnet inside was busted off, luckely the shaft that goes round and round inside the sensor was not damaged.Th CPS controls the plugs, hence why it was stalling every so often. I also had to replace a pully and the belt, as they were in bad shape too. The pully was starting to sieze, and the belt after 90,000 klms or 60,000 miles was starting to show its age. So after $598 cdn I am good to go.As the old saying goes-fix now or pay more later. I could have been paying alot more for this problem to go away.LOL-TTYL
I have a 2000 F150 4.2L 2WD, and the Cam Position Sensor trigerd a check engine light. First, where can I find an Engine diagram to find where it is. I think I have located it, but its almost impossible to get to. HELP!!!!!
Do a quick 'Google' for a road map of your engine.
Yes they are in a bad place, so I bit the bullet and spent the $500 to let someone else do it. What took them a couple of hours would have taken us a week-
