what can i make work
i was told that a 7.3 has the same bellhousing as a 6.9 and you can put a 460 in it but i was not told anything more about the 460 , i got one given to me today its in a 77 lincoln cont and im going to small block it and demo it next summer
i have been wondering about the bellhousing the moter mounts and wether i can make my flywheel bolt on i know i will have to drain the tanks and possibly might not even be able to use them
the truck is an 89 f250 4x4 5speed hyd clutch 7.3
we put way to much money into the truck just to let it sit we put new batterys in ,axles, hubs, clutch, rad., tires , brakes, plates about a month ago , i cant remember what else but a lot
Try removing the glow plugs and cranking the engine. If coolant blows out the glow plug hole you know where to look for the problem. When you crank the engine with the glow plugs out, DO NOT STAND WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE ENGINE. The coolant will come out with considerable force if that is the problem.
The 5 speed gear box off the diesel will not work with a gas motor, the bolt holes are different.
Any 6.9 or 7.3 will bolt right in. The glow plug system is different on the 86 and older 6.9's and the water seperator is not part of the fuel filter in the older 6.9's.
To change the glow plug system, use the glow plugs and wiring harness off your 7.3.
I would also use the fuel filter and water seperator combo off your 7.3.
They are both an improvement over the older units.
As far as motor mounts, the 460 was offered in several 250 trucks( I can not remember exactly the years) so they should be available.
Since the diesel has a return line, it would work with a fuel injected motor, but I think the sending units would have to be changed. With a carb motor the fuel lines would probably work if you block off the return lines on both ends.
The last gasoline Ford truck I had was a 69 model, I don't remember a lot about it other than it got 7 MPG with a 360 engine.
