Has anybody adapted cupholders to their truck? If so what did you use to do so? Having no cupholders is probably one of my biggest pet-peeves, ideally what I am looking to do is have a unit that can be cut into the dash and pop out similar to the Superduty cupholders. Any ideas on which kind of truck to rob these out of and integrate them relatively easy?
my 92 had a double cupholder mounted on the front of the front seat. i was entertaining the thought of taking a 3$ console and somehow fastening it the same way in my 77.
With a little carpentry skills you can cut out and make a box that will fit the curve of the seat, and become an armrest as well as a storage container / cupholder. Some foam and vinyl or fabric and you have a nice cover. You can move it out of the truck when you need the space, but will be handy when you don't.
I remember the first cupholder that I saw. It was one of those blue things that went between the glass and door frame.
I use the one in my car some, but didn't grow up haveing them, so I don't need one that much.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
I ended up attaching two el-cheapo cup holders purchased at Walmart to my dash with sheet metal screws. Not pretty, but works. Walmart, Kragens, PepBoys, etc have allsorts of these things that might work for you. If you want to get fancy and spend some money, check out these two sites.
Hey thanks for the replys guys. Jim that VW cupholder looks interesting I'll check that out but for now what I have found is a cupholder that clips on to the rear bench seat in a Superduty crewcab similar to what trafficjedi was talking about. And no I am not obsessed with Superdutys it's just that our company outfits 60-80 of them a month, and little parts an pieces like that are easy to come by. :-)
Go to the hardware store and buy a plastic pipe end of the size of your cup or can, It is shaped like a big cup. Buy or mooch a 1" piece of plastic pipe bigger than the cup. Drill two small holes on opposite sides so you can run a cotter pin through them both to act as a pivot bearing. get an even bigger piece of plastic pipe to secure to the other two with pivots at 90 degrees to the others screw it to something like the dash and you have a gimboled cupholder that will keep you from dumping your beer(ur) coffee when doing what a P/U is for.

My $900.00 leather Luxliner 40/20/40 bench / buckets came with a very NICE cupholder in the fold down middle seat.... good thing I put this setup in, as I don't have air conditioning..
In reply to 'youcanrace's post, you can actually purchase such an item. When I was younger, my dad had these in his yacht and then he also drilled one into the dash of the F250 (shame on him). Anyway, if you really want to shove screws into your dash or somewhere else in your truck, these cup holders swivel 360 degrees. Note that they only really work well with soda can sized drinks. Any drinks that are larger are a bit top heavy and will tend to fall over. So long as the fluid is lower than the pivot point, you are fine.
i did the same thing that jim did. ya its ugly but everyone that rides in my truck loves them. hey they do the job and i think it only cost me 3 bucks for 4 of em.

Just a thought -
I've got one of those bench seat center consels and it works great - it is curved to the seat and sits there nicely. Works as an armrest and storage case.
Cheers!
I got a plastic cup holder from Pep boys and use velcro with the tape backing to stick to the tunnel in front of my transfer case shifter. Looks and works great
