Just two words:
DUCT TAPE
and not the way you think
Take a new roll, peel the plastic off of one side exposing the sticky edge. Set it down on the carpet atop the tranny hump sticky side down and your done (sets up nicely after several days/weeks/years of baking in the sun). It will accomodate most cups and cans, and as a bonus you always have the mother of repair living in your truck. BTW it really works, havings the weight low holds things pretty dteady and it doesn't seem to F the carpet up either, not that it would really matter in my truck.
