I have a friend that wants to get rid of the E4OD in his 91 F150 4x4 and go to a ZF 5sp. I have searched and found some info on the subject but a few questions still remain.
I know the brake pedal/steering column support bracket has to be changed, but how difficult is this to accomplish?
Does the whole dash have to be removed or just the instrument cluster section?
Is it a must to change the computer to that of a straight shift truck? What happens if we don't?
If changing computers is a must, is that all that's needed or are there wiring changes too?
Is there just one computer we are talking about here or are there 2? I know the old IDI diesels had a stand alone computer to control the E4OD tranny. Is the tranny functions incorporated into the engine computer on the gas trucks?

i finaly finished my 95 f150 swaped from a 302/4r70w to a 351/m5od 5spd and the job was pretty easy no computer change needed on mine but i do get a check engine light and the o/d light flashed on the auto shifter
you dont need to remove the dash to swap the pedals just drop/remove the steering colum (removing it makes it MUCH easier but it can be done if you just drop it
also i had to bypass the nutral switch in the auto trans harness to get the truck to start with the key pretty easy if you know how to use a test light id let you know the wire colors but im shure there different
also get the xcrossmember and starter from the stick truck youll need those to (the xmember can be moded to wark but its easier to swap them)
Thanks for the info. We do have a complete donor truck so all parts will be readily available, except for a computer. The donor has a 6 cylinder in it. I do have a manual truck that had a 351W in it, but I don't know if that computer would work for a 302 or not. He put a 302HO in his truck so it has the 351W firing order and he said all they had to do is switch the distributor wires around to make it work with his 302 computer.
