I am looking at a 77 F150 but I can not get the hood open is there a way to tell what engine it has in other wise? It is 2 wheel drive, if this helps.

I'm thinking you want to verify what engine is in this truck without lifting the hood because you can't.

The motor mounts are a dead give-away for a 460
engine.
They are a 3-piece mount with bolts crossing through the insulator.

Have a look at the fuel pump to see which way the bolts that mount the pump to the block are (side by side or top to bottom).

Anyone else have an tell-tale signs of a 351M/400 engine from
underneath the truck ?

best bet would be to decifer the vin number

 

The difference between a Windsor family 302,351w should be much smaller looking. When I swapped a 302 for my 351m it looked like I could walk around the engine compartment.

Can you get a socket in the grill and remove the hood latch? Only two bolts hold it to the radiator support. Just a thought

Joe ,The VIN # means squat, if the engine has been changed.

I think he is trying to Visually Verify the engine.

If it has an straight block, 300-I6.

If it has a smallish V8, 302.

If it is a bulky V8, and there is a hump on valve covers, 351M/400.

If it has the odd 3 piece motor mounts, it's a 460.

The wait is over. Is this rare? A 1976 F150 2wd with a 360 in it? it has air conditioning but the defroster isnt working. The body is rough and I think I am going to offer $500 for it, is this to much?
