Is a CAI, Superchips Tuner, and an Exhaust on a F350 really worth the money? As in do they really increase your gas mileage? I use my 2002 F350 lariat LE as my daily driver from school and to work everyday and im only getting 14.2mpg and want to know if these mods really help out a lot?
Well say I wanted to go with a Cold Air Intake, a Superchips tuner, and an Exhaust system... How much better would my fuel economy be if I did leave my foot off the floor? Also how much more power would my truck have, and are there any recommended procedures to take with that setup to make sure the truck remains reliable? its got an Automatic Transmission and about 70,000miles on the clock. PSD.
It would make right around 300 horsepower at the rear wheels with torque in the low 600's.
Driving it like a little ole blue haired lady it could pick up 2 or maybe 3 MPG, but it's just as possible the fuel consumption would not change at all.
Reliability shouldn't be an issue with such a mild build-up. It will simply run like it's supposed to run
Well I usually drive it a little hard and Tear out of a dead stop every now and then from a red light and fly down roads.. are you saying it wouldnt eat up fuel faster if I did the mods?
when i got my truck, i was getting around 15.2. i added a 4'' exhaust, and a "kwik" filter (dont waste the $$ on a CAI, get a www.fleetfilter.com part number 46637) check my gallery). then i was getting 15.7 mpg. not really worth it,eh? i then put on a Edge Juice with Attitude monitor. i run around on race setting 4, and constantly see 20.2 mpg. (a superchips will do the same thing, basically, not adjustable)....pretty good for a 7800 pound truck that can spit out 700 lb ft of torque at the crank. my foot isnt exactly "light" (it is a 14 ) and i still get numbers like that. before my wicked wheel (i had stock), i was getting 19.5. i believe the faster spoolup and better efficiency helped me squeeze out an extra .7 mpg. good luck.
forgot to add: if you do this, you will need to beef up your transmission. the sonnax valve/tricumulator springs will do just that. some say the best $50 they have spent on their rig. i am waiting to install mine now.

Lets put it this way. When my truck was bone stock and brand new, the first tank I ever ran through it yielded 17.8 miles per gallon.
Now, 4.75 years, 130500 miles and a whole grocery cart full of modifications later the last tank yielded 18.3, and I do not drive like granny.
how hard are the springs to install to beef up the tranny and where can these be found at? What other modifications are required to protect my tranny? and with a tuner set on the high perf setting i wont go blowing my turbo will I? and whats a nice exhaust run for these trucks? Another ******* question.... do they make Blow off Valves for our trucks. lmao
The springs are not hard, just a messy job. Additional tranny mods...maybe another cooler added in-line.
You don't need a BOV, you don't have a throttle plate.
A wicked wheel is an aftermarket compressor wheel for the turbo designed to eliminate compressor stall.
One thing you haven't addressed yet and need before any power mods....gauges. Get 'em. An EGT gauge is paramount to the longevity of any modded motor. Trans temp and boost are also good to have.
So I think ive made my decision and im going to put money into the modifications talked about above... CAI, Superchips Micro Tuner, and Exhaust... which order should I do these in?
Gauges first.. That'a way you can compare temperature differences and so forth as you add mods. Then I'd go with a Kwik filter upgrade and exhaust, at the same time, to open her up and let her breath! Then a Tuner and sonnax tricumulator valve and springs, they're easy to install, just be ready for a mess no bigdeal...
