hollowing out cat.. help!

I paid $50 to have a shop remove the cat put some header flanges on it, put some flanges on the exhaust, and then fit a straight pipe with some flanges on it as well. It takes me 10 minutes to swap the cat back on once a year for smog, the rest of the year I have the straight pipe on there. The hollowed out cat will creat a lot of turbulence in your exhaust, if you have to do it, at least put a pipe through it so it flows better.

I wish shops around here would do that. We don't have smog testing in our county, but if you mention anything about removing a cat in our area, shops go balistic. A real small auto parts store in a real small town a few miles up the road sells 10 foot sticks of exhaust pipe, and if you mention anything about replacing your cat with the pipe he sells you, he wont sell it because he says if you get caught and they ask who sold you that pipe and you tell them, then its the shop owners *** thats in deep crap.

This shop was kind of the same way, they made me leave with the cat on. I told them I wanted to make it removable for when I took the car to the track. They said as long as the car left their shop with the cat on, they weren't liable for anything.
