Problem found

Guys, I removed the throttle assembly cover last night and there it was, the DREADED PCV elbow that goes from the throttle body to the PCV valve hose, it has a slit that is about an 1" to 1-1/2" long and when I started the truck the whole elbow would collapse because it was so soft from the material break down!! Local ford dealer has one for around $20.00

I really appreciate all the advice and guidance, it definitly steered me right to the culprit.

One further question, how do you properly remove the wires from the fuel injector clips on the wiring harness, I have 3 connector housings on the fuel injectors that have broken retaining clips and I need to replace just the housing, they rattle loose and cause the truck to act like a miss at times. I was able to get one apart last night but had to force the wires out with a very small screw driver, not sure this is the proper way

Thanks again

I guess when someone's right he can be a little cavalier. But you can still catch him next time!

But you used the word lame first not me.
My comment was not a shot! after rereading my reply it does look that way
Ken04.
My apology to you.

99dually glad you found the promblem.I think there is a special tool for removing the wires from the plugs ,or due what you did but be sure to lightly bend the little tab back when pushing the wire back in to lock it.

There is a special tool for the plug pin retainers but your method will work if you are careful...please be sure to keep the orientation correct in the new plug shell as the injector are polarity controlled. Get it backwards and you bought an injector.

you can get the prewired plugs from ford and use the heat shrink but connectors that seal out water from the splice from walley world.

Injector clips

Guys, The PCV elbow fixed the problem (installed Saturday). One note though, the truck did die a few times after the initial install, it happened to me on my first drive around town, when I would come to a stop, but it seems to run fine now, does this make sense, does the computer need time to re-adjust to the fix? I cleared the codes with the Actron scanner should I have disconnected the battery and reset the system?

Also, I did purchase the Motorcraft pre-wired injector clips from a dealer near my work on Friday but I also had my local dealer order me a sample of just the housings on Saturday, should be here tomorrow. If the housings are correct then I will return the Motorcraft parts @ $20 and go with the housings at $7.

FredVon4, Thanks for the polarity heads up, I was worried about that when I removed the first one and did not pay attention to the wire locations (as I should have) I simply tried to match the wire colors from the next injector and it seemed to work fine, will definitly pay closer attention next time

Thanks again for all the great input!!!

DuallyV10 you should suspect other vacuume leaks, EGR or IAC or (long shot)TPS syncronization from the work.

I have never heard that once the elbow any other drive cycle or reset was required they all seemed to emmediatly fix the probelm... your injector clips may just be screwing with you also

Chalk up another instance of surging caused by a leaky PCV hose. My '99 V10 started surging about 10 days ago. Tried spraying off the MAF sensor with electrical parts cleaner. Then tried cleaning the IAC. Finally, I pulled that dumb plastic cover off the throttle linkage and there was that elbow staring back at me just as described, collapsed and with a 1" split. Trip to the dealer for a new one and all is well.

I discovered this thread by using that SEARCH gizmo the moderators are always pimping. Thanks for the info and help.

which elbow is this that you guys are talking about? I see 2 elbows inline in the hose from the TB to the PCV. The one that collapsed it the one attached right to the TB or the other one which has 2 pcs. of hose going to it?

Talking

It is the hose which attaches to the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) device in the top of the valve cover. If it is bad you should that it is compressed or spit typically and may look deteriorated.

Best of luck
