They are not hard to install. You can even get automatic switches for them so that they come on and turn off at certain temps.
They are suppose to free up a little horsepower since you dont have the extra drag on the motor itself.
Its really up to personal preference. I like the clean look the of the engine compartment with them since you can dump the shroud and fan. Unless your drag racing I doubt you'd actually notice the hp gain.

I too like the clean look of it and that is the main reason I want one if I get a little better horse power and gas mileage out of the deal then that is great. It is not my everyday driver so that is just a by product of cleaning up the engine compartment.
If you happen across a fan that works, cool. Otherwise there are a couple companies that make them. Check ebay for the Fiero fan. Might get lucky and find one.
well the fiero fan did not have a temp switch. i simply used a relay for mine it turns on when the key is in the run posistion and turns off when cranking the engine. i used a starter relay works well and the fan was 10.00 it is actually a lot better qualty than the be cool and perma cool fans i had on there. most likely because this fan is O.E..
So this should bolt right up. Also did yours come with the wireing harness or did you make it work what did you do to make it work for your truck. Thanks for your time.
wish i knew about hte fiero fan being a good bolt in. I just used a 96 ford windstar dual electric in my 88 f-150 351 c6 ext cab 4x4 with just a little cutting to fit around the radiator hoses it fits really well. I got the temp sensing relay from advanced auto a little expensive but its adjustable, and has a replaceable relay in it. I only have one fan running now and it cools the rad off by about 50* im going to install another relay on the out side of the rad to kick on the4 other fan if the first one cant keep up.
yeah pretty much it just slides in between the rad fins its held in place with one of those locking clips like a tranny cooler works ok but i think mine is to close to the inlet hose or something cuz it runs almost all the time even when i know the engine is fine, but it thinkif i move it a little further away it will get a better rad temp
and you were able to bolt in the Aerostar unit. What did you do as far as the wiring is concerned. And was there any modifications other than cutting a little bit ot make it fit. Thanks for your time and knowledge.
um as far as wiring the fans came with the plugs for the and the relay came with all the wire i needed. plus it has pretty good instructions. I think it the "hayden" company. right at autozone altho prob most parts stores carry it or sumthing pretty close. remember they sell a cheap one and a good one. wut you buy depends on how far you want to drive.
as far as mounting yup pretty much i just cut off the windsart mounting tabs then made a couple of notches for the rad hoses. I then made 4 little 90* brackets about 1 inch wide, about 3 inches long, bend so there is oh about 1- 1 1/4 inches by 1 3/4" or so a little fitting is obviiously gonna be neccasary. but any way mount the brackets to the fan with some screw and bolts i used some good size washers so they dont pull out of the plastic. think ahead, and bolt the brakets so they support the fan. then just dropped the fan in so the brackets on the bottom of the fan sit right in the factory rad shroud clips on the rad support. and the brackets on the top of the fan use the factory shroud bolts in the top of the rad.
oh yea I mounted the fan relay just above the little black evaporator cannister underneath the battery. I wish I had a digital camera right now hahaha
Very nice sounds easy enough I think. I am still a little fuzzy on the brackets but I am sure once I saw the piece I would see exactly what you are talking about. Were did you find the unit. I have found the Fiero one on ebay and would still be interested to hear how the install was on this because it is so inexpensive but it might have been more dificult to mount. Not sure. Again thanks for your time and experience.
