My truck has been down a few years for a rebuild. But the rear brakes locked up before and they still do now. The rear shoes and drums are new and the wheel cylinders aren't locked. I'm leaning toward a new pv but don't want to spend the money if it doesn't fix my problem. Are the factory pv rebuildable or does someone know where to get one at a bargain? Also if I put in a aftermarket pv how do you hook it up properly? My factory pv has two in two out and the aftermarket I have found only have one in one out.

I bleed brakes 95% of the time solo. I have a cheap kit which has a clear plastic tube and 3 rubber boots of various sizes to fit your bleed screw. The other end is in a small plastic cup and sits about 1/4 inch from the bottom. The cup has a lid on it that locks in place. You pour enough brake fluid in the cup to just submerge the end of the line.
When you crack the bleeder and start pumping the brake, the fluid will stay in the line so you can see it, because of simple pressure equalization. It is important that the bleed screw fits the rubber boot tight, as any air leak will allow the brake fluid to drop into the cup. At the same time, this airtight fit will ensure no air gets drwan back in when you release the brake.

I had my doubts the first time using it, but now it is my tool of choice for bleeding brakes. When I do have help, all I do is watch the tube and cup fill up with filthy old fluid and bubbles! No need to do anything else. The system works without fail, and cost me under $10.
Sure, I would like to have an expensive vacuum pump tool, but hey, I have a spending limit at Christmas, and I only need to do brakes once for each vehicle! lol
