I've got a quick question for anyone who knows a little about the Ranger's electrical system.
I've got a 97 Ranger. On my way home from work this morning all the dash lights that are illuminated when the head lamps are on whet out. The idiot lights still work, ie things like the check engine, air bag, etc lights still come on when I start the car. I've checked the fuses and swapped out the ones that I think are related to the dash lights but it didn't make any difference. Just for reference the fuses I checked were 7, 11, and I think 31. It is the one at the bottom of the fuse panel. Does anyone have any clue what might be the problem?
This is the first time this has happened. It rained last week but it has been dry for the past several days. I didn't have any problems Friday or Saturday when I drove it. The only other time I've had a problem like this was with an 86 Ranger that I owned when I was in high school. The solution in that case was simply replacing a blown fuse. In this case that hasn't worked. Either I'm not looking at the right fuse or there is something else going on.
