Front end noise
What does it sound like when you have a bad front bearing assembly? I have a rubbing sound in the front of my 2000 Explorer 4wd. You can hear it when you are driving about 10-12 mph and when you are applying the brakes as you slow down. I have replaced the seal and cup in the steering knuckle and now the sound is back. I do have a outer tie rod end that has a split in the boot on that same side as the noise is coming from. Also, when you go over a speed bump it sounds like rubber rubbing rubber. When I turn the steering wheel you can hear a little bit of a roaring sound, but that could be the tires. I don't know how loud the roaring is when you have a bad bearing assembly. Anybody got any ideas??

I just got finished checking out the noise again and as I rotated the front tire I could hear the sound. It sounds like a rubber to rubber sound like I mentioned before, but I had my hand on the caliper and felt the vibration. I removed the caliper and put the tire back on and rotated the tire and the noise is gone! My dad was helping me, and he didn't see any movement in the brake pads when I mashed the brakes. I am thinking I may have a bad caliper. The pads looked like they are wearing good though. I guess I will buy a new caliper and see how that works.
