90 ford overdrive problems
Hey guys new to the board but seems very well put together. Anywyas to get to the point I have a 90 ford f150 With a four speed auto. The problem is that around 60k miles the truck decided o not shift ion to overdirve anymore and has been this way all the way to 120,000 miles. (i know i should a fixed it a while ago but ive been lazy.) And with todays gas prices i have to fix his problem. So does anyone know of any known probnlems that cause this or do the trannys just have a tendency to go bad. Any help would really be appreciated. thanks

I had the same thing happen to my '93 with the E4OD. All posts indicated toasted trans, or at the very least, torque converter. I did pull a code for excess torque converter clutch slippage. Being cheap, I changed the fluid in the trans & TC, as well as replacing the filter. OD slowly came back & has been back for many months now. Good as new for about $50 in parts.
