I have read the Free Blend Door Fix and have attempted to no avail. I did not have a mirror avail, so I will still need to get and recheck the pin position.
It seems as most that it fixes though have both extremes......A/c Max, or Extreme heat.
In My situation I have no heat whatsoever. I do have AC in the normal and Max positions. The vent always blows the external air, no difference.......It seems that most that the blend door problem helped only had AC on max.........think the blend door fix will help, or i have other problems?
If you can't control the climate control temperature, then that is usually indicative of a blend door problem.
Sometimes a cooling system issue will affect the ability to get heat, but that kind of thing you would have seemingly noticed (blown headgasket, bad heater core, etc.).
The only other thing I could think of is that the water diverter valve (if your 4-banger has one) may have failed shut, and hence coolant flow to the heater core is being blocked off permanently. What happens is, when you use the MAX A/C setting, the water diverter valve closes off the flow of hot coolant to the heater core.
I had this problem on our 96 Explorer. I followed the blend door fix from this website and my problem was solved. The mirror is important. This is not a guess type of thing but get it close as perfect as possible. Even with the mirror we are off by about 5 deg F...I can live with that. Using the mirror you still have to make your brain think backwards. Hard to explain, but you will see what I mean.
I got the mirror and when I look in the hole where the actuator arm goes, all I see is the hole....i see no arms or anything else that the pins that I would put on the actuator would catch against......am I missing something, or it is possible there is nothing there?
Are you using a flashlight to shine into the mirror to relect down into the hole. If I remember, without the flashlight I could not see anything. Another think could be where that part broke...look at the piece you removed from the top of the actuator and see how much is there, about how long? I am guessing there should be about 1/2 inch or less...I will double check my notes.
indeed do have the flashlight and can see nothing when flash the light down there....appears that there is nothing the actuator would catch and move the door.
