Blend door problem 97 Explorer

Hey All,

A couple of days ago, when I switched from cold to warm air on the blend dial, it went warm but i couldnt get it to go back to cold. It stayed piping hot and wouldnt change at all. It didnt even blow cold when i switched it to normal or max a/c.

After reading the various posts on fixing the blend door, I'm not completely sure I have the same problem. My heat is on full bore, I can't even get the A/C to come on, not even in the MAX A/C setting. Most of the sites say that your MAX A/C should still be working. Do I have the dreaded blend door issue or could it be something else?

Thanks everyone...

UPDATE -

I was able to get the a/c working but only once. I switched it to norm a/c from the off position and it blew semi-cool not cold like it normally runs. It is really cold outside if that matters, i dont know if the a/c was really kicking in or if it was just blending a mix of outside air and heat. And mind you i was only able to get it to do that once. It blows hot no matter what setting, vent (outside air), defroster, feet, any setting... and it doesnt matter what the temp slider is on either.

On a separate note - Every now and then when i fiddle with it, i can hear clicking noises coming from the dash when I play with the slider and move it back and forth a few times really fast, does this mean the actuator is bad?

Best bet is to slide your head under the passenger side of dash and see/listen.... Philip

I just took the glove box off and took a look under there but i couldn't find where the actuator is. I checked this website out but it doesnt really specify where to look:

This is the pic I took:

Any ideas?

It depends on how it is attached. Some are snap on, some are bolted on.
