I replaced my truck's Catalitic Convertor & Muffler with 7' of straight pipe a couple weeks ago. Turbo Spoolup is quicker than it was. In cab noise is still minimumal with the windows up. Outside the vechicle the difference in sound is noticeable. This is only the 2nd change to my stock F350, the other change was to upgrade the airbox & filter from the 2002 stock setup to a 2005 model Airbox & Filter. I notice that I have to exercise restraint as I pull away from the lights as I have spun a wheel briefly on dry pavement on more than one occasion.
My F350 turned in a respectable 21.1 mpg on my recient run from Grande Prairie, Alberta to Edmonton & return to Grande Prairie. Certainly no complaints here, I continue to be impressed by my Ford.

i would recommend going over the axle to near the stock location. it saves the tires from the black soot, and all of the under carriage. plus i think it looks more natural and cooler.
Not suer if you heard a straight pipe or not. This is the sound file that was sent to me when I was trying to make a decision. I currently have no muffler and would never put one back. www.milchman.us/nomuffler.wav
got any pics kabcpapc or a better description. did he run it over the axle or stop and turn down just befor the axle.
i been thinking about doing something like this to my 2000 psd just undo the clamp that is just behind the cab and remove the tail pipe and muffler. Put in a 2ft stack with a turn out (turn down to highway) just before the axle (just in front if the rear tire)
He just replaced the stock muffler with the straight pipe. He used a 36" long 4" stack extension with the two adapters. He still has the tail pipe. No pics yet. My son is out of state with the Excursion right now. Will try to get him to take pics and post.
savage did you go over the rear axle or did you stop in front of it?
Exhaust exits at stock location, the straight pipe replaced the Cat Convertor & Muffler, so the 7' section of straight pipe was measured from 4" in front of the Cat Convertor to 4" back of the original muffler location. Welded the pipe back to the stock tail pipe section.
