Here are some pictures for you. http://home.mchsi.com/~shaneandcharity/carbpics.html
These show the proper connecting points for #2 and #3. The Power Comes from the Alternator and is supposed to be 7.5 Volts I traced the wire from the alternator to the connector in the picture to get the power for mine. #2 is supposed to get heat from the exhaust to help heat the choke to pull it off. There is a plate on your intake manifold that exhausts hot air this is where that connection goes. I had to make my own tube and then I used two part epoxy to "weld" it. The pictures tell you a lot. I can get more pictures if you would like. My truck is a 1977 so mine may differ slightly.

Sorry, to bring up an old post, but I've been searching and reading all day. Lots of good info here, but still a little confused on a few things. In your picture, #2 is a pull through that should be hooked to vacuum, yes? Can I just run it off manifold vacuum?

Also, #3 appears to be the power lead for the electric choke, yes? If so, is it just a 12 volt source?

Both of these things are disconnected on mine, and there was no hose leading to/from #2, and no wire leading to/from #3...

thanks...

Thanks for the help, but the link just comes up and says Choke Pictuers, but I don't see any pictures.

Also, I'll have to check again, but I don't remember seeing anything external from that exhaust port in the EGR spacer. I ran 12volts to the choke last night, and it seem to work great. I'll look into it more, as to what it should be, and see if I can find a wiring diagram.

So, if my choke is working good as is, is there really any need for the heat tube?

thanks...

I see them fine !

You're supposed to click on the actual picture link shown

The wire to the electric choke on an FORD Brand choke is supposed to be run to the stator terminal of the alternator.......

Why ?
so it is only on when the engine is running and won't burn out by having 12 volts running to it

The 390 should have the old style heat tube .

Well, This is all I see when I click the link, and these are not links, just text. May have something to do with me using Firefox here at work. I'l try from home...

Sorry to keep beating this, but I now have it hooked up to 12volts ignition (no power unless the key is on), which is what a choke should be, but is it supposed to have less than 12volts? I'm not the least bit familiar with stock Fords. I've done quite a bit of work on my buddy's '78, but it's definately not stock...

So, I have no idea what the old style tube was/is. Since it seems to be working as is, can I just cap off that tube into the choke? Again, I don't remember seeing any exhaust port off the EGR spacer. I assumed that tube came up from an exhaust manifold. Which there appears to be something capped off on one of them. Thought that was it...

I'm not worried about being emissions legal. Most of that stuff was missing, broken or hanging when I got the truck...

The exhaust heat is needed to speed up the removal of the choke and to make sure it occurs along with the engine warming up to operating temp. It doesn't come from the EGR Plate it actually comes from the intake manifold. The voltage should only be on while the engine is running. Other wise the choke may heat up while you are listing to the radio and the truck will not start or worse yet it will burn out the heating element as it was only made for 7.5 volts.
