HARD starting?

I have a problem with my 78 which has a junky FYA Carter 1bbl on it with 6 months on a rebiuld.The fuel pumps fills my fuel filter all the way full -used to just be about 1/2 way when it ran right but choked and all it still will not start-it I dump gas straight into the carb it starts hust fine well driving it it will just stall for no reasonI pop the clutch and she back running
I think my float is sticking closed. What yall think?????????????
please help

Sounds like the needle and seat could be sticking.
