Thumping tires in rain
Has anybody noticed that their tires (I have 18" Continentals on a '06 F-350) make a thumping noise when it is wet out? It happens to me every time it rains, since the day I bought the truck). Sometimes worse than others. The tires sound like they have a flat spot or something stuck to them, but the expected relt vibration is almost non-existent. Not sure if it is the back or front tires, but sounds like only one tire, and it does it at all speeds, the thumping frequency increasing with speed?

If the tires are new, look in the rain grooves for the thin slices of rubber from the injection moulding of the tires. They go perpendicular to the grooves on the tires. Just cut them out. The noise is caused by this narrow strip of rubber flapping against the road every time the tire spins around.
