Hey, I have an aouto transmission, but on the shift bar everything seems to be missaligned...example...to put the truck into drive, I have to move it between the "D" and the "N" does anyone know what the problem is? and how to fix it? Thanks
Cow,
There can be several things wrong. If your steering column is relatively tight you've eleimnated about 80% of the possible problems.
Often enough the rod between the column and tranny is bent. This appears to be your problem based on your description.
Get under the truck and check the linkage that actually joins the rod to the shifter of the tranny. It's not uncommon to see the bushing worn out and wobbling. If that is the case, replace the bushing. The linkage should be outboard of the shifter arm. Your's will be, according to your description. Disconnect the linkage and bend the arm so that it is shorter. If you bend it too much it won't go in "Park".
Be patient, this is a trial and error procedure.
