My truck is a 79 F100 2wd, full-size. Does anyone make a lift kit for this truck? Nothing extreme, 3" or so. I saw one in the AutoKrafters catalog, but its listed as being for a Bronco.
If you are going for 3", try a body lift. Much less in terms of cash, work and money! (I have heard of a person using hocky pucks to achive it! Just found longer bolts to use.)
With a body lift, no suspention work. It will probably require some cutting at the firewall, for stering componets. Maybe some new linkage for the trany. (I did it to a 4 speed Ranger. Only cut was on the firewall and extended the shifter.) As well fuel filler extenders. All my wires were okay so no leangthing was required. You will eventually have to move the bumpers up 3". (On that truck we just welded a plate so it looked more like a step bumper on the back...if I kept the truck longer I would have done it as the next step. We removed the front bumper and it looked okay.) You can also get "Lift Lips". (www.liftlips.com) They bascially cover the area that is left open. $60's for the truck and 10 for the bumper.
As well a body lift is a good start to any lift project in my mind. If you like it and want more, the other route would be a good second step. I have heard 6" is the max you would want to go. I have never tried it so I dunno. But you could do 3 now and 3 later and still be much cheaper than redoing the entire suspension kit!
Try a Performance Accesories 3 inch body lift. They cost around $70 for your application. You can find these lifts just about anywhere. The best place is at NTWonline, they have them for about $70.
If you simply want to fit bigger tires, then a body lift is o.k. If you are going to use it off road and need better clearance and articulation, then you need to lift the suspension. Yes, it is more expensive, but it will improve the ride and feel of the truck on and off the road. Almost all of the major lift companies have kits for 2 wheel drives. I think FabTech makes the biggest 4X2 lifts, they are the ones that make a lot of the suspensions for pre-runner type race trucks. A good site to check out is www.rockymountainsusp.com, or start searching the web by suspension company name: Superlift, Rancho, Pro Comp, etc. Also, what ever you do, don't use hockey pucks, they are too hard and can cause things on the frame and body to break. Good Luck!
Yea, checking into it, I also have ran into the same problem. I contacted the company recomended here and they say that the angle is too sharp for the steering box. (READ: It will work, but sterring components will break dang quickly!)
I don't know a 2 wheel drive susp. lift kit seems odd. (Yes thier has been lots of discusion about it.) But if you need to do her up, go for it any way possible! I have been looking around to the sites that you suggested Jayson, however no 2 wheel drive applicaitons! Any other suggestions?
Well, your right, Ryan, my bad, it seems that they do indeed have two wheel drive lifts, but only go back to 1980. So, I'm out of ideas. Iknew I had seen them somewhere, just couldn't remember what applications. I would search the Suspension forum for old posts on this subject or post a new question. I know that the back is easy to raise, with either add-a-leafs of blocks, its just the twin I-beam front that is the problem, or at least difficult to find kits for. Personally, I would call Rocky Mountain Susp 800 number and talk to a sales tech, they may have them, just not on the website.
