Does anyone know anything about the the pro-comp lift kits? How do they rate against the other lift kit manufacturers? Looking to lift my truck 4 inches. Any reccomendations welcome.
A buddy of mine used to run the 4" Pro Comp on his '02 F-350. He had it on the truck for less than a year and took it off to go taller and a better quality lift.
For the SD there are other companies that are better.
IMO, Pro Comp makes a cheaply priced lift that is for those who want to get their truck lifted, not spend a lot of money, and don't care how it rides.

I don't believe they rate very well when u compare it to other lift kits. For just a little bit more $ you could go w/ a better lift kit (i.e., Superlift, Skyjacker, BDS,...). If you want a recommendation on which lift you should go w/, it kinda helps to give up some more info on how you plan on using your truck and tire you plan on using. At 4" there are hanger kits, all spring lift kits, front spring & rear block. There are just so many choices out there.
Not sure of tire size yet. Nothing over a 32 or 33 lets say. Usage will be no extreme off roading. Fire and forest roads during hunting season. Normal commute for work. Want to maintain load carrying capability. I may not even lift it. Just level it out. Putting info together now, asking questions etc.. Would like to see pics of trucks with level kit/tire size and 4" lift/tire size. Haven't gone to any lift shops yet to talk to anybody. A buddy has same truck with a 6" lift and 35s on. I know I don't want to go that high.
Just looking at the procomp springs, which are very then few leaves i would opt for one that is a little more money if you plan on keeping it for a long time. With the newer lifts on SL or Skyjacker, and edge the leafs have 11 or so leafs, which give a softer smoother ride and won't sag as easily.
For how you plan to use the truck I'd probably just go with a hanger and shackle leveling kit. You'd be able to fit 33/12.5 tires underneath that....on some 8-10" wheels.
I like the Edge 3" that is a hanger, full replacement boxed shackle and Bilstein 5100s that are valved specifically for the SD. And a adjustable trac bar would be nice.
Thanks for the links Tank, pics helped a lot. Went to a local 4 Wheel Parts store today and talked to them plus a Les Schwab store. The 4 wheel store recommended the Fabtech 3.5" hanger kit. But I've seen some posts saying to stay away from Fabtech. Don't know of any local Edge dealers, but then I'm just starting out. Les Schwab has a Revtek 3.5" leveling kit that includes overleafs that will stiffen up the ride a bit but will prevent the sag mentioned by 02Supersroker. Any info on REVTEK? I liked the look of the Edge 4.5" lift with BFG 35s that I saw on Overkill's pics. My primary concern with a lift kit is I plan to carry a camper and don't want to raise the center of gravity to the point where it becomes a concern. And as with all things appearance is important. With the 4.5" lift and 35" tires pics you can see that lift + tire are balanced. I appreciate you guys responding. Time to do some more research. Thanks
Was just down your way Tank, back in August. We were out at the Roswell Industrial Airpark. Don't know if you saw it, but we were there with a Boeing 777-300 that we were doing some testing with.

Are u kiddin me! They got so many planes being stored down there it looks like an International Airport! Industry's really hurtin I guess. But, we love the business. I don't remember seein the plane, but pretty big airport (runway) for this little town huh. Used to be an AFB for B-152's. They had a fire down there last weekend. Some dummy lit an oily rag on fire for who knows why but got out of control and gutted the rear of the plane. You know I would seriously consider giving OverKill an e-mail to go over some of your concerns. Stay away from RevTek. I might get more input about em. Keep up the research. It's a process and IMO your goin about the right way. Hadn't really read any posts about "staying away" from Fabtech. Best of luck!
BTW, Puyallup? Used to live on 45th st near Green lake in Seattle. Dad had a house in Maple Valley "on" the Cedar River. Love the Great Northwest! Laters.

Ok, did a search in the forums and generally Fabtech gets a lot of positive comments. I did see some negative ones and those seem to be the ones I initially saw and stuck in my mind. So Edge and Fabtech along with Rancho(too pricey for me) and Superlift seem to get the most positive responses. Will e-mail Overkill. DCSpecial, you seem to have a lot of knowledge, so I may wish to pick your brain also. DC-on the leveling kit issue-I see a lot of different leveling kits that go from 1.5" to 3.5". Do some of these leveling kits also raise the rear of the truck? I mean, why the variation?
I'm almost positve that all of the leveling kits only lift the front.
Variation would be depending on if you still want the nose down look or not and if you have a F-250 or F-350. In early '99 I believer that the F-250 and F-350 both had 4" rear blocks underneath the leaf springs.....they measure a bit shy of 4". Since then, the F-250 has been given a 2" rear block and the F-350 stayed with the 4" rear block.
So, the F-250 will take less height to level it......generally around the 2" range. The F-350 will generally take around 3".
Also, your motor, cab and bed combo along with what code stock springs you have will effect how far your truck needs to be raised to be level.......some trucks look pretty level from the factory.
If you run a 2.5"or higher leveling kit on a F-250 with the 2" block you'll want to swap that out to a F-350 4" block.
Edge 3" hanger and fulll replacement boxed shackle is nice....also is a 2" mini spring pack.
Fabtech 3.5" is a hanger and bracket to relocate your stock shackle.
Rancho is a replacement spring, I believe, but I don't like their lift on the SD.
Superlift has a 2" hanger I think and I 3" replacement spring....decent stuff, I didn't care for their bracketry when I saw one though.
Whatever route you chose to level I'd recommend Bilstein 5100 shocks.
O.k. guys. E-mailed overkill. Got some good info. Looking for a little more. Would like to hear also from guys who have/had a 4" lift. I'm pretty sure I want to go with the 4-4.5" lift. Debate is now between a hanger kit or a leaf kit. Will a leaf kit stiffen up my ride significantly? And will a leaf setup increase my load rating? I understand that the hanger kits allow you to maintain the same level of ride and won't affect the load capability. Tire size- a lot pics I've seen with 4" or 4.5" lifts have have 35x12.5x16.5 tires with 16x9.75 wheels. Tire rub not a concern? I've looked at the Edge kits, a little pricey but not out of consideration. Longevity is a key here. Drove my last truck for 15 years. My son's driving it now. There's an F-250 posted on ford-trucks.com members galleries by a guy named pounder. This is what I want my truck to look like. Don't know if the link will work, but with the info I gave you can find it if your curious. Have a look. Thanks again, you guys have all been great. http://photos.ford-trucks.com/showph...thecat=500sted in the photos
How much the ride stiffens up will depend on how good of a leaf pack you go with.....some have more spring rate than others.
The load rating also depends on the spring pack.......I'm not sure if any would increase the load rating but there are some that would probably keep it about the same as stock. Add-a-leaf option for the rear probably would.
I currently run a 4" Rancho (hey, we all had to start somewhere right?) with 35" BFGs on 16.5x9.75 wheels.....(Pics are in my gallery). For the street all I had to do was trim my air dam to be able to turn without contacting anything. Off road I can easily make it rub on the plastic inner fender and when I really try and flex it all I would have to do is turn the wheel and I could hit sheetmetal (but, that's about the time when one of the rear tires will come off the ground). FYI, my Rancho 9000 shocks are trashed with 14k miles on them......but I have put them through a lot of abuse.
A buddy of mine had a 4" Pro Comp with 35/12.5R16 X-terrains on 16x10 wheels......he removed the air dam but would still rub on the plastic inner fender just while turning on the street. Has since ditched the 4" Pro Comp for a 8" Edge.
Whatever lift you go with I would suggest Bilstein 5100 shocks.
O.k. fellas, looks like I'm going with the Edge 4.5 hanger lift with 315/75R16 tires on 16x10 wheels. My commute is 30 miles one way and ride is important. I-5 between home and work is pretty beat up(heavy semi use). When I get my slide in camper, we'll see how it goes and make adjustments as needed. Want to say thanks to everyone for their input. Greatly appreciated. Tankhead thanks for hooking me up with Overkill. DCSpecial- thanks for hanging in there with me. I was probably beginning to sound a bit ****.
