Just wondering what everybody is doing when their seats wear out. I'm not just talking about the cover, I mean the side springs are broke and the foam cushion has seen a better day. What later model seats would swap easy? Sure would like to have the same seat out of my 2000 in my '73 then the '73 would ride and drive better! Long live them old Ford trucks! thx, Woody
There are many places across America that rebuild seats.
Just make sure they use *Automotive seat foam* instead of
Regular foam or Truck seats from 73-96 will work .
Any seat from a 1996 or down F-truck will bolt onto your seat rails. Just unbolt the entire seat assembly from the truck, then flip it over and unbolt the seat from the brackets (they are held on by 2 bolts on each side.) Be careful when you manipulate the seat adjuster, as with no weight on the bracket, it moves with the speed of a guillotine, I almost lost a finger the first time I did it. Do the same with the new, better seat, and put your old brackets on the new seat. Then stick the seat back in.
I have a 92 seat in my 78, and a 82 SuperCab seat in the 70. Make sure you sit in your new seat and make sure it's confortable to you, they make many different styles of seats and some seat better to some folks, and other better to other bodsy style folks.
I love my leather buckets seats and padded console. If you like, I'll send you some pix...they are VERY sweet.....send me your email address to laptopgeek at earthlink.net if you're interested. The buckets are arranged in a 40/20/40 configuration; under $900.00...
Fordmando, Thanks for the reply, thats the info I wanted to hear. Putting another cover on worn out seat is just a pretty worn out seat. Thx, again woody
I have one of the special sport truck versions of the '79 F150 4x4 with the orange/silver/black interior. I was ready to pay $$ to have my seat reupholstered and then I discovered on this site-classifieds a guy selling a nice cloth bench from an '87 XLT in silver color. He wanted just to get it out of the garage for $25. That's one day that having a truck paid off. I drove 45 miles that night and scooped it up. It bolted right in and looks good in the silver truck.
Whatever you do, do it soon. A nice seat goes along way to make a nicer truck.
I am trying to get some research done on my interior. I'm the type that wants to plan everything out to the smallest detail. Could anyone review this question. I don't want a bench and am not really concerned about getting a third person in the cab. 40/60 or 40/20/40 split is prefered.
The only 'bucket seats' I know of are the captains chairs with the center console that they put in full size Broncos and some extended cab trucks. Same year range, up to '96. You will have to drill holes though. IMHO this is a pretty neat set-up for a regular cab truck. Check your junk yards, you never know what you might find.
im also wanting to put split seats with a arm rest, which can fold up into a 3rd seat. 97+ trucks have these seats. the 96 and lower also had them right? and can i put seats out of a areostar van into my truck without much drillin?
