MC 5W-20 ok in efi 460?

Moving to a 5W-30 thats on the lower end of the 30wt viscosity range, would yield easier cold weather starts, have the cold oil get to the top end faster, lower highway pumping losses, but still offer in range hot operating 30wt viscosity that the engine is accustomed to.
If you want to move to a 20wt for mpg improvement, you'd likely not see much if any gain over a lower hot viscosity range 5w-30 & maybe have a noiser engine, as one member did when he made the swap.
In any case here is a link to a three page thread with a link to Fords 5w-20 TSB, thoughts & results of that member who was from Tx, on how his 5W-20 trial turned out, that you might find interesting & useful. So let us know what you do & how it goes. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...0-or-5w30.html
Pardon the corruption of my #4 answer somehow being added to your origional #1 post, I just noticed & corrected/deleted my part.
Gonna have to have a super mod or admin type have a look at this page.
If your 460 has been back specified to be ok to use 5W-20, consider the latest Pennzoil conventional SN/GF-5, 5W-20, as it seems they're now using their group lll GTL base oil because in PQIA VOA testing its showing a super low NOACK % evaporation of less than 7% & has a nice shot of Boron & Moly, so should be able to take a beating without breaking a sweat. Petroleum Quality Institute of America
The latest recipe of conventional Quaker State 5W-20 looks to be similiar, so if your not uneasy using those products, add them to your consideration list & let us know how it goes.
Motorcraft has let their 5W-20 NOACK get away from them, as PQIA measured it just above the max 15% figure, as well as Valvolene Next Gen 5W-20 which measured around 18%, so those of us that have hot running engines, or use our engine in long hot oci's, be sure to keep a close check on the oil sump level if your brand oil has an increased NOACK figure, as with a 15% NOACK % evaporation figure, a 5qt sump could loose/use 3/4 of a qt in an oil change due to evaporation alone, not counting what the engine might burn, or leak!!!!
