I have a 79 F-100. the rear end drags when I load it. I was wondering what I have to do so that it can carry more.
3/4 ton springs?
Do the axle bearings need to be changed to support 3/4 ton?
Should I swap in a 3/4 or 1 ton axle?
Are the frames the same width on a hevier truck?
Thanks for any help
Adam
If you are worried about the sagging get a set of those bolt on overload springs but you gotta remember a F-100 is the lightest truck Ford built. Its not worth putting heavy suspensions in these trucks as the axles and brakes can't handle the load, 1000 pounds is about the heaviest I would go.
I agree with kenworth i have a 79F100 as well the only thing i did to mine is air shocks.I also had to replace the leaf springs they were broken (had no choice)so i replaced them with springs out of a F150 they had an extra leaf.If you do a lot of hauling you might consider a trailer(just a thought)like KW said its the lightest truck in the Fseries fleet and not really set to haul heavy loads.
