I'm putting together my list for the 12v conversion project. I spoke to one of the well-known vendors and they told me I need to change all of the bulb sockets over to 12v. Is this right? I thought bulbs from a 56 would fit my existing sockets on my 54.
If I remember correctly, the 12 V pins are different. You can buy the 12V sockets with pig tales. The sockets usually press out, sometimes they are soldered in so the need some heat to remove them.
If I didn't remember correctly, someone will tell ya the right thing.
I remember Now!!!! My bit above was for replacing single filiment bulbs with dual filament bulbs. Like just parking lights to turn signal/parking lights.
Write this one down - it took me less than 24 hours to figure out what the heck I was talking about. For all you youngins out there, see what fun old age brings, I can play Hide-n-Seek all by myself.
Your other choice it to use LED type lighting. They're more expensive they will probably out-last you!
Regards,
Rick

Just converted my 51 over to 12 volt and didn't switch a single socket. Went down to my local NAPA store with a handfull of 6 volt bulbs and switched them to 12 volt.
I was lucky my front parking/turn signal had double filiment bulbs. The tail lights were more trouble. The bulb in the backup light acts as the turn signal. I had to paint this bulb red.
