The 428CJ and SCJ's were rated at 735CFM. The single carb 427 was a 780 CFM unit and 8V setup was a pair of 652CFM carbs. The 390 and 406 used 600CFM in single carbs and 860CFM for the 3-2V on the 390 and 920CFM on the 406. All but the tri-power setups ran vacuum secondaries.
Bear according to HP trends www.hptrends.com the tripower is rated at 728 cfm. Also total cfm is 1030. My setup has a 330 cfm primary and two 350 cfm outboards. Mechanical linkage no vacuum either. Will be running on the 406 it came on. That site has some interesting info and a really good rebuild/tuning download. I've heard conflicting info and was wondering what you think????
Yeah, some had chokes on both and some had only on . I have a neighbor who' doing a complete restore on a '63 Galaxie with a dual carbed 427 and both carbs have chokes. I noticed as I thought it was strange. It is factory though, he bought the car new.
Well I am not working from a book ..Just going by Memory?? Which screws me up more times than not......I alway thought the to different #s on the 2 x 4 set-up was the front carb had the choke on it??
And with the 3 duece (tri-power) set up...the center carb had the choke on it..and that what you ran off until you stuffed your foot in it?? Running progressive linkage the 2nd and 3rd carb came in seperate from one another..Once your center carb opened up all the way tour front carb came in on the linkage and then the 3rd at full throttle? I must be thinking of another set-up then?? what can I say? I'am an Old Man!!

Russ
I will drop by Bruce's house and check his 427 carbs for numbers right after hunting season (Nov. 1st). I get homewhen the rain starts making me bug nuts beating on the camper roof, like tonight. Leaving in the AM at 5:30AM to look for Bambi, see as I haven't seen any deer since opening day eve.
Well for the 3-2V you almost got it right. The center carb was at about half throttle when the front carb started tipping in and at about 5/8 throttle the back carb started tip in and they all 3 reach WOT at the same time. At least that's how mine worked, a never installed setup from the truck of a '62 Galaxie with the 406 4V still on it and 50 miles on the clock.
Russ, if you are old then you not only remember the sixties but the fifties as well.
Man I like you guys more and more all the time. I was born in the 60's, and these "kids" on here were making me feel pretty geriatric. It hit home a couple of weeks ago when I found myself seriously considering the purchase of a luxury car, regardless of the horsepower. Gawd, that's a bad sign!
Oh You are young. Back up another decade and you get to me.
Well Ya got me there Bear...LOL.. I just turned 50 in Aug...And Brian, I do have one of them big ol Cars... Well the wifey Does ,the GP with all the bells on it!!
