I am going to replace the wiring in my '56 and I don't know if these gauges are stock. Can anyone tell me if these are add-on's or are they the stock item. I attached a photo using George's instructions so if it didn't work it's his fault not mine! Thanks for the assistance.
If I descide not to use these gauges what do I do with the lines that come out of them, for instance the oil pressure line which connects to the engine block? The truck has the original in dash instrument panel, do I connect those same lines to the "idiot lights" in the panel or just cap them off.

I think the original oil pressure gauge in your 56 is electrical, not mechanical.
Are the wires from your gauge hooked up to the engine? It should be hooked up to a sender on the engine.
Does your original oil pressure gauge work when you run the engine?
If not, don't disconnect the aftermaket oil pressure gause, because that's your only means of showing you there is oil pressure in your engine.
The truck doesn't work at this juncture so I don't know if the other gauges work. The aftermarket one on there now seems to be mechanical I understand now that the original is electrical. What I don't have probably is the sending unit which connects to the block.
George's site has a wiring diagram. You can't hook the ammeter wires to the idot lites, it would likely blow it out. To remove the Ammeter, simply connect the two wires on the back to each other. The temp sender may work with your stock temp gauge. The oil pressure line would need to be disconnected at the engine and a oil pressure indicator (idiot) lite sender installed in it's place or the hole just plugged with a pipe plug.
Thanks for the input. The first thing that I have done to the truck is replace the brakes, shocks and front springs. I just finished tearing out the interior and derusting it and repairing some holes in the floor boards. My next project is to replace the wiring, distributor, plug wires, rotor and condensor and then try to fire it up. I contacted Sac Ford and they have a wiring harness and I can probably get the oil pressure sending unit from they too but I may leave those after market gauges in until I see how she runs. Thanks for the input.
