Smile '92 Bronco

Hey y'all, I'm looking at a '92 Bronco wondering what yall think.
-302 c.i. motor
-auto w. o/d
-6 inch superlift
-anti-lock brakes
-151,000 miles
-new starter, alternator
-has exhaust leak, needs new tires, steering box has slack, gas gauge doesn't work, notin major i dont think... just stuff

Just wondering what yall think, I'm gonna drive it sometime soon. I know the man good, he's my youth person at church so i trust him. I like the truck, just wondering what i need to be worried/ concerned about. Thanks for the info, also what gas milage should i expect he said 12-14mpg sounds good to me.

What is the pricetag? Will dictate whether its worth it or not quickly.

What size tires are on it? If larger than stock, have the axles been regeared to keep engine rpm's at a reasonable level? 6" of lift usually means larger than stock tires which will ruin your MPG if the axles haven't been regeared. Large tires that need replacing are pricey. $100+/ tire is not uncommon.

Is there oil in the airbox UNDER the filter? This is an indication of oil control loss from rings and seals which usually requires an engine overhaul. 302's and 351's are known for this.

If the transfer case is electronically shifted, does it work repeatedly? The electronic shift motor is the bain of these 4WD systems' existence. They are prone to failure.

Is the steering "slop" the gearbox or worn front end components? TTB (Twin Traction Beam) trucks (all Broncos and F-150's from 1980-96) have quite a few components that keep everything in place under there.

Is the exhaust leak in front of the catalytic converter? The factory Y-pipe is a bit pricey to replace. The 302/351W family of engines tend to crack manifolds especially the passenger side.

These are the questions I'd be asking or looking closely to answer when looking at/test driving the truck. The sending unit is the most likely culprit with the fuel gauge which will require dropping the tank to get at it. Not "nay saying" here, merely being devil's advocate. These are the things to look for with these trucks. I may have missed something but someone else will remember it and post as well.

the tires are 35's but it needs new ones. The slack is from the front steering gearbnox ($100-150i think). And the 4x4 always worked ( ive tested it several times to see if it would engage)

It would be a good idea to get a price for repairing the fuel sender and you should consider replacing the fuel pump while the tank is off. When I bought my used 92 a few years back, the fuel gage wasn't working. It turned out it was the fuel sender inside the fuel tank. I proceeded to change out the fuel filter (seems it was the original) and the pump gave out soon after. I ended up changing both the in-tank fuel pump and fuel sender. I don't know if it was just coincidence, but I would see if this is a common occurence as it may save you time and money. (it was a pain in the a$$ to drop the tank)

Does it have manual or automatic hubs? is there any rust on the vehicle and where is it? is it just surface rust or cancerous? does he maintain a service record on the vehicle? Did you check the condition of the lubricants in the diffs and in the transfer case, was there any metal shavings? have you test driven the truck and tested the 4 wheel drive? many questions come to mind. look up the blue book value on it and decide if its worth it after replacing any worn or damaged parts. also have you looked at any other vehicles that might need less repair?
