Water pump and reverse flow question

ok so i have the 5.0 which we all know is a reverse flow engine heres my question would our classic truck radiator work with the cooling of the engine the reason i ask is because no watter is moving in the radiator wehn running which led me to beleive the thermo was stuck i open it to my suprise there was no thermos in there so now i beleive the pump is jack so my question is would it be a wise choice to go with the stang pump or get a standard flow pump?

Are you saying your 5.0 has serpentine belt setup on it? This does cause the water pump to spin backwards, but the water pump is made to spin backwards so the water still flows through the engine the same - in the lower hose and out the thermostat through the upper hose to the radiator. The radiator won't know the difference, it will work fine with either setup. You should have a 195 deg thermostat, it's better for the engine than without one... I'd stick with the serpentine setup, looks much better.

Are you having over heating problems?

the only 5.0 that spin backwards have the smooth pulley on the waterpump, the serps with the grooved pulley still run the same way as the v-belt setup. The smooth pulley is a backrider,( rides on the back of the belt)

yes i have the serpintine it has a grooved pulley i put a thermo in there now but i went with the 180. The truck is over heating after about 10 mins of driving but ive noticed that the pump isnt working because when running shouldt water be running in the radiator like moving around and junk? well ive looked and it stays completely still when the mototr is running

Did you just put this engine in or was it ok before and just started giving problems?

If you just put it in does it have the same belt setup it had in the old car?

OK but you can't put the different pump on because the timing cover is backwards also from what I remember. So buy a standard water pump and match it up, if it is different your going to have to find a timing case cover to go with it.

do you know if the 93 pump is standard flow or reverse? If you don't your not going to prove anything.

When you took the OLD pump off, were the impellers in good shape? is the impeller tight on the shaft? If there is nothing wrong with the impeller, the pump is not a problem.

You might want to go over to Stangnet and see if anyone can tell you if the 93 stang is standard rotation or reversed.

As long as you have a 93 stang timing cover, 93 stang water pump, 93 stang pulleys and belt routing - it should pump fine.

It overheats... need more info. Does it just show hot on guage or does it actually boil over out the radiator cap? Has it always done this? What changed/happened before this problem started? 10min of what driving (city or hiway) before it overheats?

Heres the deal finished the install even tho im sure the pump that was on theres works i now figure that the pump is a reverse flow pump which means its sopposed to turn counter clock wise and as it so happens its turning clock wise hence the no water movement now i need to figure out how to fix this i figure if i use the pulley eric was talking about it should fix my problem

It's not JUST the wp pulley, you need all the pulleys and brackets from the original engine. It would be much easier to replace the pump and timing cover with the correct one than it would be to swap out the whole setup unless you have a donor car you can steal everything off of.

see if this helps
