This may seem crazy but would it be possible or was there anything avalabe to attach or mate or aftermarket over drive for these tranies? I currently have one and would like to keep it but have over dive too. I know that the 3 speeds had over drive could one of these be made to work?? I also know there were the 5 speed overdrive that were in bigger trucks and i could look into that but, anyone know about the t98?? thanks
I looked into this at great length whilst building my 52 & unless things have changed you won't find much. About the nicest units I've seen are those made by Gear Vendors. They are basically an auxillary unit, build quality is outstanding- and so is the price- about $1500 last time I checked
My solution was to keep the T98, (love the whine too much) but get rid of the stock rear & swap in a Dana 60. It appears that the gurus of the site have compiled an interchange so check there for apps.
i had a t-98 in an F5 and could not get the road speed. i installed a brownie aux trans but the engine didn't have enough power to overcome the 28% overdrive. i installed a 5 speed out of an 89 F-250. [ it was behind a 300 ]
i've had great luck with the setup. the drivability is much improved.
I also have a T98 and need highway speeds.. So I change out the 4.11 in my 9in rearend and put in a 3.25 and it works out great
How hard is that to do? I am just starting this project and really need some highway gearing in our truck. I think I'm probably lower than 4.11s as second gear won't get me across an intersection without having to grab third...maybe the F250 was really geared down for farm work (and from the shape of mine, the farm got the best of it!)
I know, I need to run my VIN and find out what it had way back then...
