There are flashlights like that. They use a magnet that slides thru a coil which produces electricity when shaken. The electricity is rectified and used to charge a capacitor. The capacitor then drives a LED. Some people say they work great. There is another thread here on them.

I have a couple of these flashlights. They work fine within their limits. The light lasts about 20 minutes between charging (shaking). The lamp is a led and is bright enough to get around the house. But if you have to change a sparkplug at night I would drag out the maglight.
