It's outlined in the owners manual. Sorry, I don't know off hand.
You need to pop out the mirror by squezzing your fingers in around the rim of the glass and pulling toward you. Once it is out, remove the electrical connector from the back of the glass (supplying power to the defrost heater) and set the glass aside. You will then see tabs that are holding the lamp assemply against the bottom frame of the mirror assembly. Squeeze the tabs to release the lamp assembly. You can then remove the bulbs for replacement.
If you want to replace the front cover of the mirror assembly, this is the time - you will see the tabs holding the cover against the mirror frame once you remove the glass.
thanks peeps, i would have never thought they put that in the owners manual. i got it out and read it from cover to cover, learned a few things, but knew the majority.

Welcome to FTE! The owners manual is a great resource. Most people that I know wouldn't dream of reading it, but I always read it from cover to cover.
Since I have so few proplem with my Fords, I normally forget most of it.
well now im looking for a lens for my mirror. the manual is not the right directions, it says remove screws, there are no screws. tried the other above mentioned method, could get to the tabs without removing glass, got one loose and pulled the lens from its base. oh well.
thanks anyways and if you know where i can buy just the lens let me know. havent chcecked with the dealer yet to see if lens is sold sep.
There is a torx screw on the inboard front side of the lens pod. You have to fold the mirror forward just a little bit to get to it. Once you remove the screw, the lens pod will pop out (down). The two tabs mentioned are on the outboard side of the pod.
There's also a metal clip that holds the outboard side of the len to the mirror. It's helpful to use a straight screwdiver to work the clip out. Shine a flashlight between the bottom of the mirror glass and the mirror housing and you should see the clip.
You can buy the lens separately. It you want to go clear (smoke like the 2005 & up Limited's) get the smoke or get the standard amber. Cost was around $35 or so.
