Cool Throw away turbo actuator?

Throw away turbo actuator and replace it with a spring? What kind of load spring would I need? Screw the 300 to 180 to replace. I wont hold any vacuum.

are you talking about the wastegate actuator? the gold canister at 2 o'clock in relation to the inlet?

what i think he means, is the wastegate actuator. when the rod connecting the vaccuum canister to the mechanism is loose, the wastegate will stay partially open all the time. what the wastegate does is "waste" (hence the name) some of the exhaust pressure to keep the boost pressures within a safe level. as you can imagine, the wastegate sticking open can hurt performance, because it is constantly dumping boost. what some people have done to remedy this is disconnect the wastegate canister (the gold thing with the nipple in the end), and tighten the rod a few turns, to keep it closed longer. some even cut the rod, but i dont know how to do it. but i do know that the cut rod will keep the wastegate closed longer, providing more peak boost and quicker spool-up.

Please explain the problem in more detail. The wastegate actuator is pressure activated, and never has a vacuum applied to it. If the problem is the wastegate opening too early, disconnect the red pressure line running to it and plug the line. If that isn't enough, disconnect the business end of the actuator arm and crank the rod end down to apply more seat pressure to the wastegate.

I applied both pressure and vacuum to the thing and the arm wont move. I can hear the air leakin. Now people say it has pressure, well must not be alot since the hose doesnt blow off. Wouldnt pressure push the arm to the pass side of the truck hence it is wasting, or does it trully draw vaccum from the green hose as the boost intake air is drawn past the orfice in intake tube? hmmm please excuse my spelling as the agrivation of this and my problem code are drivin me maddddd...thanks Troy oh it anyone want to know the codes they are the 1247 turbo boost low and 1211 not enouph or too much fuel pressure...still tryin to figure what is causin what...thanks again forum for any help you all can think of for my poor lil truck :{

You should see the actuator arm move with as little as 5 psi pressure applied to the actuator cannister. You also should be able to move the actuator rod by hand with a fair amount of pressure.

The actuator might be bad, but your wastegate actual may be stuck open.

i think you hit the nail right on the head... and there isn't a diesel built that will run worth a damn with the wastegate stuck open...

throw away actuator

No the wastegate is not stuck open, yes the rod will move by hand, no it wont move by pressure or vaccum. Bungee cord worked awesome, lol. When I left last night at 8pm I ran to California to pick up a 24ft travel trailer and screamed my way back home, lol got home this morning but not before having to pull over and reattach my bungee cord. It came off and the wastegate went open and she fell on her face.

Anyone know where I can find a new turbo wastegate actuator for cheap?

No junk yards in phoenix arizona and surrounding have any powerstroke engines, they never sit very long, only gas motors.

If you liked how it ran with the bungee cord, just wire it shut and be done with it.
