i had to recently replace the rear in my 91 f150. i just replaced the whole unit with a used one which had been sitting outside for a while. i tapped side to side with a chisel to get the abs sensor loose after taking the bolt out of the top. it broke loss very easily. i then tried to gently pull the sensor out. which again happened very easily. then i looked in the hole and half the sensor was still in there. now. what is the best way to remove it. i was thinking about drilling a hole and threading it and using a puller but i think it is a magnet and will be hard as hell. anyi deas. the manual says just pull it out but mentions nothing of it breaking. thanks for any and all info.
It sounds like you need to change oil in it anyway, so just put a pan under it, slowly remove the back cover and drain the oil. Push the sensor out from the bottom with the cover off.
i did change the oil in it. i changed it and then tried to remove the sensor. so i didn't really want to pull the cover back off if i couldn't get to the inside of the housing. i was thinking that the carrier was in the way and there would be no way to tap on the sensor to get it to pop out. i was just wondering if anyone has run into this problem and if i needed to remove the carrier.
Same thing happened to me when trying to hunt down a bouncing speedo. I was able to grab the outer metal shell with some needlenose pliers and just worked it out. I don't believe the magnet was left in mine, but you will probably have to get that out first. The new ones have plastic shells on them. Hope I could help.
