Wifes 02 mountaineer's ABS was engaging at low speeds when turning left. So while I was replacing a rear axle seal and greasing the front sway bar bushings I thought I would clean the front sensors to see if that would help (the rear one is such a pain to get to, thought i'd just do the fronts first)
Since I had all the wheels off, I bled all new fluid into the system also. First drive after doing this, the abs started engaging at a higher speed than before then the abs light came on.
I don't think my cheapo scanner will pull abs codes and since the front sensors are $120 I would rather not just throw parts at it.
Is there a way to pull the code and figure out what sensor it is?
I'm thinking it is probably a front one, since I didn't touch the rear one and the problem got worse after I messed with the front ones.
ABS code scanners are less than $100 now so there should be many more of them around in smaller shops, get it scanned so you don't guess.
NOTE: Any time a wheel speed sensor is removed, thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces. On front wheel speed sensors, apply High Temperature 4x4 Front Axle and Wheel Bearing Grease E8TZ-19590A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C198-A. TORQUE to 80 in-lb.
