The '80 was little more than a graphics/appearance package and had the stock 2.8 (and had a 4-speed).
In '81, the "real" X-11 package "z-code vin" cars were released. Z-code X-11s have a worked-over 2.8 (with a higher lift cam, 8.9:1 compression, better flowing heads, and functional cowl induction hood scoop), Muncie 4-speed with lower-than-stock gearing, bigger front sway bar and shorter/stiffer coils (car is lowered about 2 inches from stock), 215/60 tires on aluminum alloy wheels, quick-ratio steering rack, plus the X-11 graphics, rear spoiler, fiberglass cowl induction hood, and front chin spoiler. It also had extra bracing in some key areas to limit chassis flex.
