My Oil Pump is not pumping

Ok here is a quick over view of my problem. Went to eat, lost oil pressure, motor starting knocking, had it towed to house, was told it was the oil pump, replaced pump, still no pressure and knocking still exists. Took oil pump off, cranked up truck for 2 seconds, the rod in oil pump is not turning, was told that the crankshat is connected to the rod and that its something in the crankshaft. This is a 1998 4.2L V6 F150. What can i do other than replacing the bottom end of my truck or worse the moter it self.

hi, the oil pump is driven of the camshaft positioning sensor shaft. this can be removed by undoing the clamp down bolts and lifting the sensor up and out. this will have to be retimed on reassembly. good luck with your motor hope there is not too much damage.

I have a question. Did you go to eat, come out to start your truck, and it sounded funny/rough/knocking at start up? If so it may be the dreaded hydrolock problem.

the real quesiton is: What did you eat?

j/k depending on what year your truck is, it may be overly-prone to hydrolocking. I see you have a 98, this issue was mainly in the 97's, and the early-manufactured 98's.

Check the manufacture date of your truck and check out the numerous postings, or the TSB from Ford. Although all the engines are prone to it, the 97's and early 98's typically see this around 100k, although it can appear much earlier or later, say 70-120k

1998 4.2l

This is a later production model, i was also told that it may be the rod in the Oil pump housing that is detached from the crankshaft.
