78' Front Grille

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jun-02 AT 02:58 AM (EST)]Hi all,

Went to a junk yard today and found an undented, unwarped, and unpainted front grille for a 78-79 (the aluminum grill that goes around the whole front end). My question is, what is a fair price for these? Also, can they be polished up to look good as new or should I just buy aftermarket?

Thanks,
Rick

It doesn't have any paint on it at all?
That's weird.
You could get grille's in Black,Sliver, & Silver with Chrome.

Is this a "pull your part" wrecker or a regular one?

In mint shape,I'd pay up to $50.00 for it.
Check for broken mounting tabs.

They are expensive.

78' Front Grille

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jun-02 AT 03:23 AM (EST)]Dennis,

Thanks for the info. I think that I described the part wrong. What I was referring to is the "Grille Assy. Radiator P/N 8200" AKA "grille outer shell". I didn't think these were painted... I thought they only came in anodized aluminum (how do you clean and polish?). These are the grilles that surround the inner ones, which came in the three options....right?

Weekdays they pull the parts most of the time, weekends you can pull your own. At least that was the impression I got today, my first time there.

Thanks,
Rick

Ahhh! "Grille Surround"

You can clean them with S.O.S,Jets scouring pads
OR
Look for a blue tin in the automotive cleaning section.
The name of the product is "Nevr'dull"
I use this all the time.

I've been doing the same thing with one I picked up. I'm using a dremel tool with polishing tips & red rouge...it works well to restore the chrome like finish, yet it's time consuming.
