Hey everyone, I am hearing a fairly loud clanking noise comeing from under the hood as I am driving...it does not clank while idel. It feels like it has something to do with the accelerator pedel, dones anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks
does it do it when you let off the gas going down the road? is it louder at accelleration or at a steady speed? i know this is hard but it is kinda hard to diagnose one that you cant hear.
right on million! afraid that is what he has. i gat a 79 351 that has been knocking for 4 years that i know of, still runs like a champ just a little noisy.
Yes it does continue if I let off of the gas while driving....and it almose sounds like the clanking noise that my lawn mower maked when it gets clogged
Before writing it off the engine I would check all the accesories, Alternator, water pump, power steering. You can loosen the belts and turn pulleys by hand to look for a problem.
take the belts off and start your truck. dont run it more than a couple of minutes. see if it still makes the noise. if it doesnt, start checking accessories. if it does make it, check and make sure the starter is tight to the bellhousing. get a light, with the truck dead, and look up into the bellhousing and make sure the bendix is retracting all the way. use a screwdriver to push it back toward the starter. if it is touching the flywheel, or you can push it back more than a sixteenth of an inch or so, check the return spring in the starter. how is your oil pressure? does it get louder when you are accelerating, or coasting? let us know what you find out!
