I have a 95 ranger xlt v6 and was wondering a good website for purchasing strong sturdy towhitches. I realize that with a small v6 I cant tow mutch but its for my boat I just purchased.
Any good websites?
Thanks,
Cheech
actually uhaul isn't bad. are you doing it yourself? i towed a 19ft. i/o ski boat with my 3.0., did lousy. hopefully your boat isn't as heavy otherwise keep it out of o.d. and also watch the gas go. also try reese.
Ya i was planning on getting the hitch online and installing it with my friend who did his by himself.
Ill look at those sited but I'm still looking for more thanks
ya i will thanks, I'm going to try and avoid ebay with this product, because if the tow hitch doesnt fit, or they enter their description wrong I cant return it.
E-trailer has one for $115. which isnt that bad, but im still looking. Ill definetly look at shipping fees
Hidden Hitch is by far the simplest to install. An honest 10 min job on my 03. No drilling uses existing holes and I swear they must be supplying Ford with there OEM hitches it looks just like a factory hitch.
"Hidden Hitch" makes one thats a bolt up for Rangers & only the socket for the ball mount is visable. They claim it takes about 30 minutes to attach it. I don't know if thats true or not, as I bought my Ranger with the factory hitch installed, but I did have to install the provided trailer electrical connector, but it bolted right up & plugged into the provided wiring harness connector.
A nice addition to your hitch for towing, that I've used for the past 6 years is a "Cushioned Ball Mount" by Convert-A-Ball. It'll round off the knocks & bangs to the drive line. It really smooths out your tow. Your tranny, U joints & rear end will love you for it!!!! Ckeck it out here. http://www.convertaball.com/ballmounts.htm
I agree that Uhaul isnt bad and for $5 dollars you get a lifetime warranty on it. If your in a wreck or someone rear ends you or anything and damages the hitch...they will replace it! I have a class III hitch on mine and its awesome! All together with installation it was around $200
As someone who has a '96 3.0, I would recommend that you get a class III hitch, (These are the 2X2 opennings.) They have more options available, like bike racks. I had a class II, and changed it when I had the chance.
The other thing, do not push your 3.0. Let it do it own thing. Remember it is a small motor. We tow a pop-up trailer with ours, and have over 230K miles on it. If you don't push it, it will work fine.
I also bought the hitch (Hidden Hitch) at a local travel trailer dealer for $99. Installed it myself in less than an hour.
I put a hidden hitch on my 02 with a 3.0, it's rated at 7500 pounds and cost about $120, i took around an hour to install. I had drop the spare tire because i couldn't get a ratchet to do one of the bolts. I got such a high rating on my hitch because i wanted to get the 2 inch reciever instead of the 1 inch. I towed a 450 pound uhaul motorcycle trailer from so cal to tucson arizona (900 miles +/-), and put a 1000 pound honda goldwing on it and towed it back. The trip back sucked. Actually the whole trip sucked cause it was 120 degrees the whole way there and back, but my truck never left the normal mark and the A/C blew ice cold and i didn't even have it on high. I have a manual but i still had to drop down to 3rd and rev it a bit to get up a couple of the grade at about 45 MPH. Up hill legs i got 12-13 MPG, and the down hill legs i got 22-25 MPG.
