just finished my wicked wheel install about 20 minutes ago. took her for a drive and OH MY what a difference. the sound is killer and the flutter is gone. did the install with the turbo on the truck. took about 3 hours. done the banks chip, exhaust, trans command, gauges , kwik intake and now this. this was by far the best mod yet. thanks to all that have given their advice and knowledge, it made this install really simple.
How was the Install????? I gotta get me 1 but Im kinda hesitant on taking the engine apart....although i have done alot of my own car repairs and work.
The UPS man just delivered my WW less than an hour ago, man I'm stoked. It will be raining here in the Deep South for the next couple of days, so it gives me time to do research. I plan to do the install with the turbo on the truck but I have not checked to see if my O-rings are leaking yet. With 145K miles I'm betting they are. Who has the best no-nonsense link for the WW install? What tips based on personal experience would you care to pass on? Where exactly do I put my padded screw driver for leverage? Any and all tips, encouragement, gripes and general information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
the UPS man is going to deliver mine tomorrow! (actually FedEx)
here is what i am using to install mine. there was a write up that cookie88 posted about one with pictures, but it was taking the turbo off of the truck. i will search for it and post it.
I did my wicked wheel by uninstalling the turbo and it was pretty easy but on my brothers truck I did it with the turbo on the truck and it was much quicker and much easier.
blackcloud diesel has a very detailed instruction page that I used. the padded screwdriver inserts towards the center of the turbo where the vanes are the thickest. It doesnt take much pressure since the compressor wheel is not on but a little over hand tight. actually the hardest part is removing the wastegate from the compressor housing. the two 10mm nuts are not only not visible but they are recessed into the housing so you cant barely feel them. blackclouds instruction page gives you all the tools needed except for the 11mm socket to disconnect the downpipe. other than that its pretty straight forward.
sorry I forgot to mention the one drawback to the wicked wheel that I found. you see, I've had my truck for about 6 months now. I was finally getiing over the foot to the floor at every stoplight. now with the new whistle coming from under the hood , I'm back driving it like I did when I first got it.but now fuels $3.14 a gallon. hope this behavior doesn't last too long.
i have a question- does it have as much in-cab whistle as the 6.0 does? i know it has alot more boost and everything, but i would like my 7.3 to have similar sound coming from the turbo (into the cab)
Sounds great from the inside also. It does not have a lot more boost, as a matter of fact; you will probably loose a little boost. It is just more efficient at moving the air. There is absolutely no performance gain with the Wicked Wheel.
