I really don't need twin sticks, I just want to be like the K00L kids Also, at least on my Tcase, the stock shifter setup with it leveraging on itself, is really difficult to shift into 4 high and low due to wear. Since the shifter linkage would need to be redone anyways, might as well twin it
GreenSub, where did you find plastic pump parts at? The burned up stock one I have is all machine steel, and the updated used one I bought is also machine steel (has the beefed up pick up tube).
Guess I didnt factor in a longer wheelbase as I have always strived for the shortest I could. I wont disagree with the 208 being inferior- I have broken 4 of them myself, in a mud only application, granted it was in a rig with tractor tires and a 420w with 3200 stall. after I switched to the BW1345- no problem, as the 1345 has a wider chain and a tougher case. While I havent personally seen a broken 205, I have had a few that were just worn out enough they wouldnt stay in gear, even going down the road! By all means if a person is happy with what little the 205 has to offer(ultimate strength) then thats great. (who am I to judge, I have axles for the next project that should be basically unbreakable but they weigh 960 pounds apeice!!) The rig I am currently building has 5.89 gears in the axles, NP435 tranny and the BW1345 T-case, so I'm thinking I should be able to do the muddin and trailriding in high range because of the granny low first gear and 5.89's but when it comes time to do technical crawling type stuff, I will shift to low range.Basically I will have enough gearing options to do any kind of wheeling I might want to.

My buddy Chuck had one apart on his table last time I was over there, and I freaked when I saw the pump. I should be home next weekend, so I'll go over and confirm for double-sure that it's plastic. If so, I'll get some pics, and if not, I'll post up that I'm an idiot. (Like that's gonna surprise anyone). How did yours burn up? Was it abuse, or just time for it to go?
Also, wyld, your new build seems well thought out and sounds like it's gonna be tough as hell. That reinforces the point of doing your homework and build what works for you.

This is quite often caused by the crappy single stick shifting design that new process used. When the springs with the retaining ***** get weak the shifter doesn't put the rails in the proper positions and they'll slip out of gear and grind. Pro's truck was doing the exact same thing which is the only reason he went to a twinstick setup. He didn't do it because he wanted front wheel drive but his sloppy shifter was not engaging properly and not staying in gear. Once he twin sticked it was positive engagement and now it stays there with no grinding.
Everyone seems to be dissin' the BW-1345's lube pump. However, I know for a fact that the most common pump failure with the 1345 (or 1356) is that the pump wears away the case and spins on the shaft causing mass destruction. This only happens because the metal tang on the pump wears away on the soft aluminum case. I have a high mileage 1345 (150k towing behind a 351 and C6) in my F250, works great, but needs new shift fork inserts.
At a 150k miles, I am not really worrying about the pump failing; I am more worried about the case getting chewed through. I bet even after 150K miles an NP205 would need rebuilt as well.
Hey, Franken-Truck, I just noticed that you are from Virginia Beach. I am watching a tow vehicle for sale on E-bay right now from there. Any chance you could go take a look see for me if I could get you connected with the owner?? #4580489136 (maybe you have seen it around)

Well, it was a junkyard Tcase, for the waste of time and money my 4x4 conversion was (live and learn) 1 of 2 things happened: Either the idiot opened the case for some reason, and forgot to refill it with fluid, or the tang broke off the pump (old design had a metal clip) cuasing the pump to spin on the shaft and everything burned up. He then opened it and decided to junk his Bronco. It was dry when I got it. $25 for all the replacement parts I needed off a ebay, and its good to go now (lost the yoke though).
Anyways, the old pump had a short nub that the pick up hose attached too (even though it was machined steel, it was thin), and a metal clip that held it from spinning. The newer design has a larger, longer nub that is apart of the machined housing that hold it in place.
Wyld, I haven't checked out the auction yet, but I can try and look it over one night after school PM me with contact info.

I stopped by Chuck's place, and there were no tcases apart on the table. I asked him though, and he confirmed what Franken-Truck stated earlier - that the pump is all steel. I should have picked it up or looked closer. So, as promised, here's the post stating that I'm an idiot.
like said, everyones disssin ont the 1356 oil pump, mine doesnt even have one in it, and ive ran it for probly 1500 miles like that. i toasted my shift forks when i jarred my truck in some rocks and trees, and i pull the case and welded the forks, put it back together with no oil pump just so i could move it, and havent had a problem yet. maybe im just lucky.

But you guys already knew that, huh?

Do you only run yours off road, or do you run it on the highway?? I figure if you don't run it too hard, it would lube via splash...
