My 04 250 SD has no power but everybody i talk to has nothing but bad news for me . i thought about exaust and air breather but i dont know if its worth the money
i have 39.5's and an 8"lift i know thats my problem but an exaust system and intake is a bunch of money and from what i understand it wont help that much i need to change to 4.somthing instead of 3.73's but have to do one thing at a time $$$$$$$
5.4 liter V8 was not meant to turn 40 inch tires. Thats pretty much all there is to it, those add-ons wont make a noticable difference. 5.4s kind of a dog on steep grades unloaded, i cant even imagine how your trucks shifts are with 40s and 3.73s Its a beaut for show, dont get me wrong, but you arent going to find a magical power cure
thats what i hear but i just drive it on the road and only on weekends i'm just looking to help it out in the best way possible without going broke thanks for the help . i think i should have got 6.0 but i dont like other aspects of that
I now have 33" tires and 4.30 ratio, which made a huge difference in power and just a small dent in fuel economy. I used to have 33's and 3.73 and it was unsufferable, I can only imagine what 40's and 3.73 did to your truck!!! 3.73 and the stock 31.6" tires is passable, but barely. You need 4.10's and stock tires with the 5.4L to get good performance. With 40" tires, you'll need 5.13's at the least, but 5.38's to be good again, meaning at the same overall ratio as the stock tires and 4.10's. Luckily, you can get both of the 5.13 and 5.38 ratios for the Dana 60 front and the Ford/Visteon 10.5" rear. You'd probably do good to get rid of the 2-pinion rear carrier too while you're at it and get an aftermarket locker or limited slip with a stronger 4-pinion carrier design. Of course with all the rotating mass of 40's and its bigger wheels, your mileage will still suck but power will be much improved.
